According to Jim Crone, Morgan County Sheriff, a Red Flag WARNING is in effect for Morgan County for WEDNESDAY, March 2nd 2016 from 11 am until 7 pm.
There is to be NO open burning when a Red Flag WARNING is in effect. This includes the burning of any trash, yard waste or property clean-up, irrigation ditches, fields, fireworks or any other open fires or burning.
THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN DENVER HAS ISSUED A RED FLAG WARNING FOR WIND AND LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITY…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM TO 7 PM MST WEDNESDAY. THE FIRE WEATHER WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.
* TIMING…11 AM THROUGH 7 PM WEDNESDAY.
* WINDS…NORTHWEST 25 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 50 MPH.
* RELATIVE HUMIDITY…AS LOW AS 14 PERCENT.
* IMPACTS…STRONG NORTHWEST WINDS COMBINED WITH DRY FUELS AND LOWER HUMIDITY READINGS WILL CREATE CONDITIONS FAVORABLE FOR RAPID GRASSLAND FIRE GROWTH. ANY FIRE STARTS MAY QUICKLY ESCAPE CONTROL MEASURES DUE TO THE STRENGTH OF THE GUSTY WINDS. DO NOT BURN ON WEDNESDAY.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A RED FLAG WARNING MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE EITHER OCCURRING NOW OR WILL OCCUR SHORTLY. A COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS…LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES…AND DRY FUELS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO EXTREME FIRE BEHAVIOR. IF A FIRE IS STARTED OR ONGOING THE POTENTIAL FOR IT TO RAPIDLY SPREAD IS HIGH.
