Mandatory – Colorado is a mandatory boat inspection state meaning that ALL trailered and/or motorized watercraft are required to be professionally inspected by state-certified personnel PRIOR to launching at Jackson Lake. JLPOA maintains a certified inspection site at our Boat Ramp. This is a privilege, so thank you for treating our inspectors with respect. These inspections are efficient and help keep our lake free from invasive species like the zebra mussel.
All watercraft are required to be clean, drained, and dry in between uses–this includes any exempt watercraft types (see list below). All marine propulsion systems must be inspected regardless of the type of motor, engine, or watercraft. Marine propulsion systems are not exempt, even if attached to a watercraft type that is exempt.
The following types of watercraft are exempt from inspection per Colorado State Parks Regulation #800K. These are the only watercraft in Colorado that are exempt from the mandatory inspection law and regulations. All others must be inspected.
- Kayak
- Canoe
- Raft
- Belly Boat
- Windsurfer Board
- Sailboard
- Float Tubes
- Inner Tubes
- Paddleboard
- Foldable Plastic Boat
These exempt types of water craft are exempted because they are hand-powered, do not stay on the water for extended periods of time, are not still when on the water, do not have interior water holding compartments, and are completely dried out between uses.
